She is a 3 year old dwarf that I have had for 2 years. I have tried wood blocks, mineral chews, and pumice stones. She never seems to chew on anything except things that she shouldn't. should I be worried about her teeth getting too long? How can I get my rabbit to be more interested in chewing wood?
dont worry about it. give her timothy hay (grass hay) every other day. and her teeth wont get too long unless she has maloclusion, or wolf teeth, its an improper meeting of the teeth, causing the lower and upper teeth to rest on the lips, and even wood blocks cant keep that down. if they do end up getting too long, i know this sounds painful, but put her on her back in your arms, get sharp cutting object, cutting plylers work best for me, NOT SCISSORS!! and cut her teeth down just a wee bit, so she can close her mouth properly. but really, dont worry about it. your just making yourself paranoid. hay, water, %26amp; pellets, thats all they really need. in the wild rabbits dont have salt licks, and random peices of wood to chew on, but they survive. always think of it like that. How can I get my rabbit to be more interested in chewing wood?
i just took my house rabbit, Jeremy to the vet. the vet checked his teeth during the exam and he said they were perfect. the point of me telling you this is that taking the rabbit to the vet (exotic animal that specializes in rabbits) will let you know if his teeth are healthy, and all other body parts. Jeremy won't chew wood either. he loves to chew cardboard boxes. toilet paper and paper towel rolls. most rabbits love those things and they are cheap. i've never had a rabbit who liked the things that you just mentioned. www.rabbit.org is a great website for all rabbit owners. check it out. so much info on almost anything that you need to know about rabbits.
Rabbits shouldn't try salt because they will only dehydrate as it is unnessecery. Why would a rabbit chew a rock? Because that is what a pumice stone is. Try giving her cardboard items instead.
Try flavoring the wood with salt (soak it in salt water) or some other thing rabbits like to put in their mouths.
Yeah try something flavord, if not then She just dosent like them, Everyone is diffrent and likes and dislikes diffrent things right. If your worried about her teeth you can take her to the vet which will be kinda pricey but just let nature takes it course not much else you can do if she dosent like them.
