How come my 10 year old rabbit just quit peeing in his litter box?

I have an adorable lop rabbit who is litter box trained and has full run of the house. We keep his litter box in the laundry room and he just started peeing in other corners of the laundry room. We clean out his litter box every other day (with plain water, no chemicals) we have not changed the type of rabbit litter (we use yesterdays news) and nothing has changed except he now pees on the floor. Any ideas what is happening? We are going to go out and buy extra litter boxes to place all around laundry room, but why is he doing this? How come my 10 year old rabbit just quit peeing in his litter box?
He could have a medical problem. I would take him to a rabbit savvy vet for a full check up, ideally with blood work and a urine test. How come my 10 year old rabbit just quit peeing in his litter box?
Your rabbit is 10 years old. He is not as spry as he used to be. It could be that the side of the litter box is just too high for him to get over.

He could also have a urinary tract infection. When this happens, it feels like he has to go to the bathroom all of the time. When he feels this way, he just wants to get rid of the very uncomfortable and painful feeling. This could be why he is urinating around the laundry room.

Take him to the vet for a full check up, and discuss this issue with them.

Another reason he could be doing this is because there has been a change in the routine in the house. Animals are sensitive to change, and will often become ';rebellious'; when changes happen.

I hope that things improve for you as well as for him.

Good luck.
