Belgian Hares are a longer breed. They are taller than most rabbits. Even though its name says its a hare it really is a rabbit. It is a friendly breed, and grows to about 6-9lbs (2.7 - 4.3kg).

Holland Lops are very friendly but they are small under 4lbs.

Or you can go with the Flemish Giant which is one of the largest breeds. They don't have red eyes and they can weight 13lbs (5.9kg) or more. They are very friendly and gentle. This rabbits fits perfectly with your description. What is the best kind of rabbit for the traits i want?
Hello, well, there are a lot of big rabbits at the shelters, as people did not realize they were going to be that size when they got them. Be aware that some places (except breeders, they raise them for food) will be suspicious of you for asking about ';big'; rabbits as this can end up as someones supper. Or mistakenly thought to be better for children (no rabbits are better or worse for children, all need very tight supervision around kids) Big ones that do not have as many problems with ear infections (like the lops) would include checkered giants, or beautiful ';mutts';...some of the most fantastic colors and shapes come from the mutts, just like in dogs and cats. If you go through a rescue, you can see how big a rabbit is, and get one that is already spayed or neutered. Some of the bigger ones do not live as long, but that might fit your plan, too. Check out the rescue pages in rabbit references:

Flemish giants, english lops or the larger rexs maybe or just an everyday mixed breed bunny. Friendly is a matter of being treated correctly and socalization so any bun can be friendly. As someone else said having red eyes is not breed specific so breed doesn't matter there. Also you may want to consider how much grooming you are willing to do...As some breeds (angoras or lionheads) must be brushed (not lg breeds but using as an example)
depends on what you class as big and what size accomodation you want. there is no breed which has red eyes specifically... a rew is commen a red eyed white so avoid them they are albinos.

ok for that size you are looking at a french lop or possibly a medium to large ish breed maybe a buttererfly lop or an english you dont want a nethie a mini rex or a mini lop(though a dwarf lop is a large rabbit despite its name!) here are some useful rabbit info on sizeshttp://www.petpeoplesplace.com/resources鈥?/a>

remember a minimum hutch size is now a required 5ftx2ftx2ft and you should get one that is at least 6ftx2ftx3ft or a small playhouse and shed as well as a run. aslo they need vaccinations and should live neutered in pairs. go along to a local rescue centre for a list of rabbit rescues look on rabbit rehome
