What is the difference between a rabbit and a cabriolet?

We have a 1982 rabbit convertible that we are trying to sell, and I've heard that rabbit convertibles are actually cabriolets, so which is it?What is the difference between a rabbit and a cabriolet?
Before VW started using the Golf name in the US, you had the Rabbit. When the Golf replaced the Rabbit in the mid 80's, VW didn't change to the new car design for the convertible, so instead of having the Golf hatchback and Rabbit convertible, they just changed the name of what had been the Rabbit convertible to the Cabriolet.

So - there are pretty much the same car, and the name is dependent on the year. What is the difference between a rabbit and a cabriolet?
The correct terminology for a rabbit convertible is VW Cabriolet, which means VW convertible. It is the same for a Porsche 911, which is actually a Porsche Cabriolet.
rabbit is an animal and cabriolet is a car
