The rabbit will then be outside any tips for me as this is the first time i've had a rabbit.I have bought a netherlands dwarf rabbit for my daughter for xmas will he be ok outside?
a rabbit is a out doors animal, but it lives in a hole in the ground called a bural.

You have to provide a like area above ground for a pet. Also you have to have a cage build by someone that understands the animal.

2 x 4 x 2 foot high. small wire on the bottom with 1/4 sq holes, so the poop drops under neath the cage, a splash plate on the front and back under the cage to keep water from hitting you and geting all around the area. 1/2 wire on the sides and top, with a corner box placed into the cage made of plywood. 2 inches high in front with two sides and a top that is hindged for cleaning. the rabbit enters thru a hole or side that is missing if you wish. place straw or wood chips inside for bedding. Change this out twice a week..

The cage should be off the ground about four feet to keep animals like dogs rats etc from pulling the legs of the rabbits thru the bottom of the cage to eat them.

The cage can be cleaned with a adult present and the use of a blow-tourch. It will clean off the hair from the wire and also the poop and smell.

The other benefit to having a rabbit as a pet is you get to learn to go fishing. You see you will have the best and biggest worms in the poop at the bottom of the pile. Your mother will love the poop for her roses, it will not burn them after the worms turn it into a sand like material from digestion of it.

have fun with your rabbit, oh and one thing, they will mate at 6 weeks of age, so only one or you will get 6 to 8 every 8 weeks.I have bought a netherlands dwarf rabbit for my daughter for xmas will he be ok outside?
no an animal could break in or it could excape or it could get another cold
Don't leave any pets outside for too long. Especially during the winter!
I also got my daughter a bunny for christmas. But because it is cold outside I don't think it is a good idea. And he will just be getting over a cold. So keep him INSIDE!!!!!!
Make sure that the rabbit has a partition in its cage that he can sleep behind so there is plenty of shelter from winds. Lots of straw or hay for bedding is essential too. Also make some kind of clear plastic cover for the front of your cage to keep out rain. You may want to wait until spring until you introduce it to outdoor life.
I would say no, especially since the rabbit already has a cold.

The other thing is it is really hard to tell because you do not give your location. Might be ok, if your down in the south of the states, but if your up here in Canada - where it is blowing snow right now, not a chance I would say.

Besides, who buys a kid a rabbit and sticks it outside anyway?!?!
The animal is already sick - do not keep him outdoors. He needs to be indoors at all times, except in summer for exercise on the grass.

If this is a pet and not food, he should be handled every day.

His cage should be very comfortable and cleaned every day.

They make cages so the poopy and pee drop through the bottom for easy cleaning.

So glad you asked us - a dead bunny is NOT good.
You may want to reconsider keeping him outside. If it gets cold enough, he could freeze to death.
yes and no because if you get a cage for the pore little fellow with carrots and something to keep that bunny warm and you might not to keep it outside because it might get the cold and you might not want that to happen probably the best time to keep him inside on the cold days and let him run free in your backyard on warm days
I wouldn't even bring this rabbit home, if it has a ';cold'; already.

Rabbits that catch respitory illnesses once are prone to them forever. Most likely it will end up dying from it.

Rabbits can be outside but if you bring it in and it gets acclimated to being indoors then you move it outside it will get sick. Sudden changes are not good for rabbits.

Please rethink this rabbit. Your daughter may be devastated if the rabbit dies after she becomes attached to it.

Always buy from a breeder never from a petstore. Most of these animals are raised in ';mill'; type situations.

Also Dwarf rabbits can be very tempremenatal and have a tendency to nip and bite. I do not reccommend them for children.
