Can my rabbit survive in good sized dog kennel or does he need a cage?

He seems to be doing alright but ive only had him in there for a week, this is my first bunny so i want to be sure hes well taken care of. Everything ive looked at could not answer this question directly...

Thanks. Can my rabbit survive in good sized dog kennel or does he need a cage?
My rabbit was actually more comfortable in the dog carrier than she was in her cage.

Rabbits are burrowers. They enjoy cozy places, and feel more secure. Its more natural to them.

As long as there is room for food, water, a small litterbox and timothy hay, leaving enough room for him to move you should be ok. In fact, he may enjoy it more.

My rabbit was a house rabbit and was only in her kennel for sleep and the mid-afternoon nap. The rest of the day she roamed, got lots of play, and spent time cuddling with me.

She was a great pet. She lived to be almost 9 years old.

She was litter box trained, enjoyed playing her special game of chase, was very cuddly, and loved to give kisses.

Treat him right, and he'll be your best friend for life.

you all do realize rabbits can be litterbox trained to go in their litter box? My rabbit didn't have a waste trap, she always went in her box. Even when she was out and about she'd go into the litterbox. Can my rabbit survive in good sized dog kennel or does he need a cage?
If you're referring to an indoor dog kennel (crate), the rabbit should be okay so long as it's a metal one with the plastic tray underneath so he's not sitting in his own waste. I don't recommend a plastic carrier, as there's nowhere for the rabbit's waste to go in order to get away from the rabbit. With the metal ones, you have the plastic tray underneath that you can pull out to clean, etc... Other then that, so long as there's pleanty of room for their bedding, food and water, and you keep it cleaned out properly, the rabbit should be fine. If all you have is a plastic dog carrier though, either get an actual rabbit cage, or a metal dog crate.

However, if you're referring to an OUTDOOR dog kennel, I don't recommend that at all unless you've put something under it like wood or concrete, etc... Rabbits can dig, and an outdoor dog kennel wouldn't take much for a rabbit to escape from. Not to mention, with an outdoor dog kennel, other animals such as cats, etc... could get to the rabbit and kill it. Good luck!
i would go with the cage...

because the dog kennel doesnt have anything like a waste trap underneath...

your bunny would just be sitting in its own feces and urine

mine is in a cage and its doing just fine
it doesn't matter, any could work
