What is the best way to house train a rabbit?

I have adopted a rabbit from someone and he uses the litter box in the cage, but will not outside of the cage. I leave the cage door open so he can get back in but will not use it. The other owner even put litter boxes around the house and the rabbit would not use them in fact he would go right next to it.What is the best way to house train a rabbit?
There are several ways to train a rabbit to use the litter box out side of the cage. I have 2 house rabbits and it took them about a week to learn. I got my tips from these web sites:

try putting some of his poo in the box so he will get the idea that he has done it before
I don't think you can litter train a rabbit... Even in a cage they usually go poo where ever they feel like it, and never seem to even mind laying in it all the time.
Here is a trick to try. Rabbits usually chose a certain spot. Get some puppy training pads. Put them down where the rabbit goes. The rabbit will return to the same spot, but the training pad will be there. They are easy to dispose of and can be used for more than one use. You just dump the ';pills'; into the garbage and replace the pad until the rabbit has wet on it a few times.

Hope this helps.
For all things house rabbits go to http://www.rabbit.org
the best way to house train anything is to get it out the house for good.
it hard to litter train a rabbit. the best thing to do is put a litter box in his cage and keep it close let him out every now and then. but if he gives a sign of ';going'; imediatly put him in the box then he would eventualy learn how to go then you could start leaving his cage open and when he has to go he will go on his own to his box.
I think there is a couple of ways to find the answers your looking for. 1 call your local vet 2 look it up at the library 3 check the net 4 ask around and 5 (I think the best one) call your local Humane Society or animal shelter and ask for tips and advise. I know that this not really directly answering your question but still hope it helps you!! Good Luck
