I found a rabbit 1 days ago and I feed it 2 big carrots a day,Is that safe?What should I feed it?

The rabbit I found had obviously been abused by its owner and was abandened. What should I feed it and What should the rabbit have in its cage?I found a rabbit 1 days ago and I feed it 2 big carrots a day,Is that safe? What should I feed it?
Grass, apples (without core and seeds), basil, alfalfa, radish, clover, beet greens, broccoli (leaves and stems), brussel sprouts, carrots (treat only), celery, chicory, cilantro, dandelions, dill, tops of dutch carrots, endive, parsley, pea pods, cos lettuce, spinach, watercress, wheatgrass, unlimited amounts of hay. Wild rabbits eat mainly grass. So letting your rabbit out into the backyard to nibble grass is a great idea.

Bunny treats

We like to give a sultana and a craisin. Other treats can include almonds and chopped up carrot pieces. Some bunnys like Bananas and Strawberrys. All treats should be fed sparingly, or you will get a fat unhealthy rabbit.

NEVER use Pine or Cedar bedding for your bunny! I recommend Carefresh bedding which is made of recycled paper and seems to stay fresh the longest. Kiln-dried pine is also an acceptable bedding material (the drying process removes dangerous oils and kills mites). Your bedding should be in a tray under the cage to prevent your rabbit from eating the bedding. Rabbits are easily trained to a litter box. Place a litter box in the corner of the cage and one outside near a play area. Most rabbits, like cats, will use the litter box instinctively. Stay away from clumping and crystal litters. The bottom of the cage should be covered with a litter material to absorb odors and collect waste. A variety of rabbit litter is available, including aspen bedding, pine shavings, cedar shavings, corncob, wood chips and clay. Aspen or pine bedding contain low amounts of aromatic oils, whereas cedar shavings contain a more concentrated amount. Since aromatic oils are dangerous to a pet rabbit's respiratory systems, consult with your veterinarian about which type of bedding is best for your rabbit.

Hope this helps!I found a rabbit 1 days ago and I feed it 2 big carrots a day,Is that safe? What should I feed it?
Are you sure it was domestic?

And no, that's not really safe- rabbits need a nugget food diet, plus unlimited hay, plus vegetables.

In the hutch, it needs sawdust, unlimited hay, food, unlimited water- in a BOTTLE, not a dish- along with gnawing sticks.

I'd advise to take it to a vet in case it was abandoned because it was sick.
The bunny also needs Pellets, and Hay. If you plan to keep her, you should buy a large bag of Pellets, and a huge bag of Timothy hay.

Carrots are OK as a treat, also as treats you can give Celery, a little bit of lettuce, as long as it isn't Iceberg, don't feed too much lettuce eather, maybe only one leaf if even.

Also give, Potato peels, Carrot Tops, Bananas, Apple slices, Orange slices, pear slices, A head or two of brocolli is okay. Grass as long as it isn't sprayed with pesticides, or Chemicals.

Your rabbit should have clean water, thats always fresh and full, you can buy a Bunny Water Bottle, or you can use a dish, I perfer bottles. Also you should buy a ceramic food dish to use, it will break if dropped, but isn't easily tipped over.

You will also need a soft spot for it to lay, I've used, Straw, Towels, Nesting Boxes, and other varius items found around my home.

You can llitter train your bunny, to find more out about litter training, Email me.

your bunny will also need wood to chew on, to keep it's teeth from overgrowing.

Be carefull, if your bunny was abused, it may have been hit, or thrown, and may be bruised or sore in places, I would contact a vet, and ask them what you should do.
Rabbits need to eat a good source of hay or alfalfa. You should buy pellets or timothy hay for your bunny. Veggies are okay but that should not be all that is in bunny's diet. Rabbits like a place to nest and usually choose a corner of the cage to use as a litter area. Make sure the rabbit has a water bottle.

I used to have a rabbit! Me and my brothers and sisters would take care of it. It usually need some bunny food from the pet store, which had dried fruits and things in it. The rabbit like it a lot. We had a cage full of hay in it...and we also bought him salt licks! He needed a lot of room to play in our backyard..so we closed our gate and let him out of his cage! Good Luck to you and your bunny!
