I have a rabbit with a lot of missing teeth. What foods can I give him that are safe and enjoyable?

To have a good quality of life your rabbits remaining back teeth should be meeting (top and bottom) so the Rabbit can still eat comfortably. Also this will help stop spurs on the teeth developing. Your rabbit should still be able to eat a rabbit diet and hay. Fibre is very important in a rabbits diet for digestion and a healthy gut.

To get nutrients into your rabbit make sure there is a vitamin supplement added to the water like Vitasol for Rabbits.

If your Rabbit has a lot of back teeth missing then you should really have the Rabbit put to sleep as the rabbit cannot eat properly, will lose weight and suffer from ulcerations on the gums.

If eating root veg is a problem you could give it some baby vegetable food with carrot pulp in. Alot of baby foods are low in sugar or have no sugar at all nower days because of tooth decay. make sure there are no meat derivatives in the food though. Cooked vegetables is no good to Rabbits because you are cooking all the goodness out.

please also see my site for rabbit diet information
Prepare the rabbit as for a fricassee; put it, with as many pieces of bacon as there are of rabbit, into a stew-pan, with half a pint of stock, two dozen of small onions, and half a pottle of mushrooms; cover with paper, and set it on a stove to simmer for an hour; then take the rabbit, etc. and lay it on the dish, skim off the fat, and reduce the liquor nearly to a glaze; put coulis to it, give it a boil, take it from the fire, and squeeze half a lemon ; add Cayenne pepper and a little sugar; pour it over the rabbit, and garnish with paste. Bon appetit.
I would seek advice from your vet as your rabbit will need to have a specialised but balanced diet and they will be able to recommend something. Also do you know why he has lost his teeth because it could be a serious health problem.
cooked vegetables and rice!
Maybe you could give him some cooked carrots and lettuce.
