Is a wooden rabbit hutch a good thing to get or no?

I wanted to get a wooden rabbit hutch and put it on our deck or in the gagrage, but my husband thinks if they pee in it, it will smell. Why would they make them then, ya'know? What do you think? Is a wooden rabbit hutch a good thing to get or no?
We have wire cages. They will chew the wood. As far as the smell goes, i think as long as the bottom is wire it shoulnt be too bad. Unless its a boy, they spray and it can go on the sides. You should keep a piece of wood on the bottom for the rabbit to lay on. If it is on the wire all day it will hurt its feet.Is a wooden rabbit hutch a good thing to get or no?
The supports of the cage can be wood, but any part the rabbit can get their teeth to should be wire, and wire thicker than ';chicken'; wire. Rabbits have digestive tracts that need lots of ';roughage';. The result of this is they produce lots of rabbit manure. If your cage has a ';pan'; under the wire floor, you will need to clean it daily especially if it is located in an enclosed space like a garage. Our rabbit cages are suspended from a shed ceiling about 4 feet off a dirt floor. I only have to clean out under the cages about once a week.

I have a ';rabbit basics'; page on our farm web site with lots of info on housing and care requirements for rabbits:

Good luck! rabbits are lots of fun!
Not good to put on grass, they dig. inside house rabbits live longer. hutches are too small, and rabbits tend to die soon, as they are ignored-they are symptom suppressors, and this means they can get sick very quickly, without being a part of the family, it is hard to keep track. They are sociable, and smart, and need a lot of care, attention, and exercise.

This site has some alternative ideas for housing that is cheap, easy, and better for rabbits.

I just got a bunny, and we're making a wood hutch, with mesh sides and tile on the bottom. So all i have to do is just wipe out the poop and wipe up the pee. But if anything, don't get a cage with mesh or wiring at the bottom, it hurts your bunnies feet.
don't get a hutch that has a ladder like this one, http://www.everythingforpets.com/rabbit_鈥?/a>

because they can fall down and break there back and get paralysed then you will have to put it down. Hope you get a good cage and good luck.
If you get a cage the best think to do is put it on the grass. Also the bottom of the cage has to be wire so when they use the bathroom it'll go through.
i have one. they do pee in it, so put it on the grass, or train it to not pee in it.!!#%#)%26amp;%$
